Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival, 4180 Waterfall Way, Dorrigo, NSW

Prepare to be mesmerized by the 2024 Australian Folk Music Awards finalists and festival favourites Haystack Mountain Hermits! Inspired by their motto, “We Play We Sing We Fight”, this award-winning band are a must see at the Dorrigo Music Festival. You’ll be transported to an acoustic world of sensational blood harmonies, coupled with the band’s fine musicianship, which will leave you spellbound as they weave traditional favourites and original songs into a charming performance. Each song they perform has been carefully crafted into a unique arrangement that showcases their exceptional musicianship. Their instrumental solos are stunning, and to hear the young’uns trading 8s and 4s is a magical part of the show. From hillbilly to folk, bluegrass to skiffle, and gypsy to country, the Hermits’ musical range is simply mind-blowing. This family band has graced the stages of some of Australia’s top festivals, including the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Groundwater, Gympie Music Muster, Woodford Folk Festival, and the National Folk Festival. They were invited to perform at the iconic Currumbin Dawn Service in 2022 and supported Paul Kelly at Rockin’ the Rainforest. They’ve just had a hugely successful tour of SE Qld and have a busy 2025 ahead. Their stunning commemorative video for “The Horses Stay Behind (One Last Ride)”, filmed with the assistance of the Australian Light Horse Association, is a testament to the Hermits’ dedication to their craft and their deep connection to Australia’s history through music. This family can really sing, and they can really play. Whether they fight onstage depends on the day!

We acknowledge the Wangerriburra people and all Traditional Custodians of the lands and waterways upon which we live, tour and perform. Aboriginal songlines trace back through millennia and we acknowledge, with deep respect, that theirs is the oldest continuing musical culture in history. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present, for they carry the cultural wisdom, stories, traditions and dreaming.
